A list of delights
Yes, I put the audio first (its a bit fast, I’m experimenting >ᴗ<).
I decided that it needs to be up there with the photograph of todays set up from our dining table (cause the puppies have stolen the study). During this one and only precious life, as far as we know, it feels important & essential to know what makes you feel happy & joyous, delighted even.
Everyday we write lists; to do’s, the weeks groceries, appointments in the Notes App, the seasonal must do’s, various dates to remember, scans to get done (& when they were last done!), which leads me to the sad feeling that we don’t often make time to write down what it is that makes us happy!
Because as sure as I am that the sky is blue, I know in my bones that it is a game changer to write these joyous things down (pen to paper, am old school) and to do that, you get to sit and think about what it is that gives you a real skip in your step, puts a smile on your dial, gives you good vibes, or makes your aura shine.
This creative spark is a two part delight.
First take a clean piece of paper and a pen/pencil/highlighter/watercolour and take a handful of good deep breaths.
Second, write down things that bring you joy. Think about people, places, books, music for starters. What about food? What are some of your favourite dishes? My mum used to make a raisin bread cake in a tin (yes, like one you’d find tinned tomatoes in), just the thought of this cake brings back such happy childhood memories from Wellington, New Zealand to our first home in Australia, Belrose. Next I remember a favourite dress, it was red white and blue, I think it was cotton with a little Peter Pan collar and it hit at my 5 year old knee. So imagine me happy stacking: eating the Raisin Bread Cake wearing my favourite Red, White and Blue dress. Oh the JOY!! So dive deep, think about your life from the beginning and get to writing it all down.
Here’s my challenge to you, read that list daily. I’d aim for a dozen items on your list, that’s your creative spark.
Put it next to your cup of tea/coffee each morning and let it buoy you. Let the magic unfold.
Is it whimsical? Yes.
Is it a tonic? Yes.
But you are in charge of you, so name what it is that makes your soul sing. Please.
