Life Trinkets

I’ll never live in a minimalist home. It just not in my DNA. Although I did go through a trial minimalist phase in my early 30’s and did my best to live my life wearing one pair of black shoes. Yes you are correct, one pair of black shoes. And as you might expect 😵‍💫 it did not go well 🤭

And I think its because I love a home that is full of stories, of family, photo’s of side quests, of what you love. A house that’s full of momento’s, art, happy snaps, musty cook books, ceramic teacups transitions from a house to a home, its personality embodied within its four walls.

And this is one of my favourite things, to walk into someones home and see their personality manifest. Oftentimes I think we feel that we need to spend a lot of money to get this look, anyone else salavate over home’s on Pinterest, tear out sheets of Vogue Entertaining (I still have a folder full of them!) You with me?

Surprisingly we dont need to spend a lot of money. One of my favourite things to do to reinvigorate my sense of creativity and life force, is to print off a few of my favourite photographs. I do it on our home printer and with some good old Blu Tack stick them to the walls to make me feel like I’m in my own gallery. You could even frame a print from your home printer, the quality is so good these days no one would know.

Here’s a couple of creative sparks:

• take your cutest momento’s and frame them (I’ve a small ticket from a ferry ride that is worthy of a tiny frame)

• print off photos and blue tak them to the wall, sit and sip tea imagining you are at your own gallery exhibition (how daring of us!)

• cover your notebook with a picture of your own (remember like we used to cover our text books at school??)

• take all your tickets, treasured photos, tiny momento’s and make a mood board of them (what secrets will they tell?)

We are in the business of imagining our futures, of creating our next fantastic chapter, of envisioning it is who we want to be in the world so lets round up all the goodies you have, and let them become your True North palette 🧭 🎨
