Layering what we love
I’m loving the way Gen Z is reminding us about the concept of increasing our surface luck. And it made me think about this in the form of joy, how can we take what we love, how we experience our joy and spread it across our lives, expanding the way we experience it.
Imagining it as a salve, metaphorically applying it into the whole of our being, to more of our life, letting it soften our edges, making us relax and smile a little more.
This led me to Jasmine 💮
When I was in Japan, I bought a tiny bundle of limited edition Jasmine Incense. Inside a beautiful pearl envelope were 10 slim sticks and a picture postcard. Thoughts were swirling in my head about how much I love Jasmine led me to think, sometimes we forget to be creative with what we love. We keep things 1 dimensional; I love Jasmine Incense. End of story.
Not quite.
Enter: Gen Z and their surface luck, but let me remodel it a touch.
When we get creative & gently flesh out what we love about something, we can weave more of it into our lives. And I thought about my days marketing fine fragrance and the concept of multilayering …. think for a moment: layering a cute outfit, the notes in your favourite eau de parfum, (top, middle & base) or a delicious & artfully prepared Tiramasu. There’s our abundance of layers in our lives.
Returning to the subject of your life, working with layers can looks like this:
Lets start with the Star* of the show: Jasmine. I lit one stick of Jasmine Incense and thought what is it about this tiny flower I love. Drum roll: I love its delicate little white petals, I love that we have Star Jasmine in our backyard which only blooms once a year (& what a time of JOY that is!!), I love Jasmine perfume (above from The Perfume Factory) & another Jasmine Oil from Sifr Aromatics & then I imagined sipping Jasmine Tea and added that to my shopping list. And then I listened to the song Jasmine by GoldFord and then I let the power of Jasmine fully wash over me.
Next up I thought I might google how to paint Jasmine flowers with watercolours this Spring.
So here’s todays creative spark; can you take something you love and spread & layer it over & into your life? Gently tease out the parts so you can find aspects of this love and weave in more of it. Use what you have in your home, in your pantry, in your wardrobe. Use your senses, your favourite ones (mine are visual and scent) to create visions of what you adore, what brings you joy and lights up your days.
Creative multilayering is a whimsical way to invite more of what you love into more areas of your beautiful life.
