Sitting & Sipping
From rolling & scrolling to sitting & sipping.
Please, make your art.
Collect pictures with your iphone, camera or paints,
post on what you love Instagram & let the algorithm find you (& ignore likes & follows),
print off your favourite photo & stick it on your fridge,
make a ritual out of making & sitting with your art.
Take your favourite warm drink,
tea, wine, champagne or coffee,
sip your drink and sit with your art.
Light a stick of incense,
let your senses relax into what you’re seeing.
Create a relationship with your piece of art,
the more you spend time with it,
the more it will reveal.
And in time you will receive so much from it, you’ll be amazed shocked and overjoyed as to how much this practice can offer you. You may burst into dance because of the joy of simple pleasures! Honestly I have two photos that continue to give me so much joy, its two doors. But I think of them often, I think one even influenced my choice of pashmina in India, one I’ve revisited in Venice (yes it looks different from Spring to Summer). If you do yoga, or any kind of exercise, you know in your bones the more you do it the more it reveals to you. And its like this with art, poetry, anything that you truly love will love you right back. When Lorin Roche, author of The Radiance Sutras* wrote ‘who then is worshipped’ he was encouraging us to notice that we feed the altar and the altar feeds us. Life is a mobis ∞ its full of side quests, big lofty goals, to-do’s and life admin.
But remember that the art you love feeds you.
*The flowers, the incense,
Grain, spices and honey

Are made out of the same divine stuff as you.
