Good energy

My home art gallery gives me energy through JOY ♡

“You’ve got good energy.” Isn’t that the BEST compliment? But what exactly is good energy?

Is it a kind of vibrational match between us and another person — something we recognise in them because, in some way, we recognise ourselves? Sadly, we can’t be happy, radiant and full of goodness 24/7. It’s simply not possible. We’re human. And being human can be achingly hard. Some days, weeks, months, even years, are just hard.

But perhaps, like growing a garden, we can tend to our energy. We can nurture it. We can grow it. We can cultivate good energy that radiates from us to others like a little cosmic gift.

And when our energy is true to our spirit, when its authentically us, it becomes almost contagious. Like a tumbleweed of good vibes, picking up a little goodness wherever it goes. I think growing good energy has a lot to do with alignment. With lining up our values with our actual lives — not the imagined life, but the real, day-to-day business of living. When we do this, something softens. It smooths out our edges. We begin to feel good. We walk a little lighter, shoulders back, with a small skip in our step. We might even find ourselves scattering a little confetti of compliments wherever we go.

Because we KNOW, somewhere deep in our bones, when our life is aligning.

When what we journal about is what we talk about.

When what we say matters to us is reflected in how we spend our days.

When our values aren’t just words we admire, but things we actually live.

That, I think, is when we align divine.

How do we grow our energy? What can you do today, you ask? Well, I have list of suggestions.

  1. Movement! Stretch when you wake up. Lie on the bed and stretch out, from your finger tips to your toes, breathe deep like you’re 10 years old waking up on a weekend kinda vibe. Go outside & stretch, stretch while you boil the kettle or prep your brekkie.

  2. Make your favourite drink; tea, coffee, chai & go enjoy it. Savour it!

  3. Go sit outside and breathe, feel the fresh air against your skin & hopefully the sun on your face for a few minutes.

  4. Read something joyful that you love. Find that favourite book of yours, the one that makes you feel so inspired or uplifted.

  5. Eat a healthy breakfast, at the table, with cutlery (yes, it can be 5 mins but set the table a bit, sit down and enjoy it).

  6. Wear your favourite clothes, curate a new outfit, it doesn’t matter if you are home or out in the city. Dress nice for you.

  7. Spritz, spray, dab, anoint yourself in your most treasured scent. I love perfume oil, eau de parfum, body oils, mists.

  8. Sketch out your day. I’ve been doing this lately, so I can see what commitments I have, what needs to get done around the home, who I’m seeing, what groceries I need to buy. Batch things together: shops/dry cleaning/fruit & veg etc. Email/texts/whatsapp doing them together helps make the day more enjoyable.

  9. Put your favourite music on, in your car, headphones, on your megaboom. My favourite go-get-the-day track is Natasha Bedingfields Unwritten. Its THE anthem for great living as is bound to get you in a good mood.

  10. Go enjoy your day and watch how your energy builds as you look after yourself, notice how it accumulates and ripples out. Your joy, circulating!

Twyla Tharp writes ‘the way to boost your mood for real, in a sustained way, is to line up your actions and your values. Practice optimism’. Page 64, Keep It Moving (my textbook for aging!). Let’s get to it.
