Start with beauty

Resting in its wrapping, this gorgeous rose incense is infusing my kitchen with heavenly scents.

The mornings that I start with a pocket of beauty, sets the tone for the day, in the best possible way.

The mornings I don’t offer that to myself I tend to scroll on Instagram, I check updates on chats & texts and basically let go of any touch with the sacred or with creativity, these are days my soul dies a little. I know that might sound a bit dramatic, but honestly when I give to myself, I can really GIVE to others.

And Beauty looks different to each of us.

In post Olympic fever I’ve watched this video with my morning tea over and over: Eileen Gu is incredible! And at 22 she’s the most decorated Olympic freestyle skier to date. Honestly, take your coffee or tea and watch the link above!

Also I’ve been watching the Figure Skater Alysa Liu, what a comeback and what a story . She’s returned to a sport on her own terms and looks the epitome of joy on her skates. Such a beautiful routine, take a watch.

From screens to books, there’s a poem by Mary Oliver that I adore, its called Varanasi. She paints the most beautiful picture and I feel myself melting into this moment. Her words are a gift to me, and when I sit with them the mood in me shifts, when the morning starts with beauty that is the mood I take into my day.

My morning ritual is twofold: Black Rose Tea and Art. It’s simple but the effect is deep & felt. You see art and tea are slow, you must slow down to make a pot of tea and you slow down to look or create a piece of art. The sensed feeling of tea is slow, calm and relaxed. A tea shop is an entirely different mood to a coffee shop. Do you know what I mean? Listen to the sounds when your in each.

When you START your day with beauty, you are creating a small ritual and day by day, you build on it until it becomes the joy of your day.
