Beauty & Faith
This sweet angel was hanging on a the wall of a cobblestrone street in Sorrento.
Beauty and faith are interconnected and interwoven for me.
I’m not talking about Beauty from a sense of external aesthetics. Yes, I love a cute red dress & sparkly heels. And that’s definately part of it.
But beauty for me is wide in range, from the smell of a jasmine flower to sweet gesture of love, like holding someones hand that’s going through a hard time. Its the depth of humanities goodness, kindness and love that has me hold my breath in awe, that has me shedding a tear, to making me feel like I’ll never not smile again. And perhaps because I’m a sensitive soul, I feel that so deeply and personally that it shapes who I am in the world.
I have faith. Its not ‘a faith’, its simply faith. I believe in goodness, I love kindness & loveliness, these feelings restore me. They fill me up so I can be in the world with a sense of purpose and ease. For me faith isnt about a particular religion, group or organisation. My faith is personal, its my own and really I dont need to discuss it or put it up for debate. Not everything needs to makes sense to others, you can indeed be a mystery in parts of your life, your private life.
There’s faith in beauty, the sun will indeed rise tomorrow, that in Spring flowers will bloom, that you are indeed loved, that being by the Ocean is calming and soothing, that Autumn will help you let go of worries you’re’ lugging around, that deep breathing is magical, that the stars are beautiful treasures that simply are (no science needed here to explain them).
Where do you find beauty? An art gallery, the sky at night, pouring the hot water into your teapot? Have a think about your relationship with beauty and see if you can tease it out from the big obvious things, to small wonders.
What do you have faith in? Is it a religious faith? Is it spiritual? Is it both? How do you sit with faith? How do you bring it alive?
**Science and research papers of course have their place in life. But this little corner of the world is mine, its a perspective that I’ve earned through living. And will everyone appreciate it, probably not. But you see, you can’t possibly be for everybody, you cant appeal to all, and the minute you stand for something there will be others that will disagree with you. The minute you put a steak in the ground, there will be an opposing view.
