Feeling a pivot moment
I’m in the middle of a pivot moment. A new chapter is about to start. I know, because this feeling is familiar in its discomfort. I FEEL it in my bones, its like I’m housing a hundred little tiny tensions.
Do you know this feeling?
Things are humming along, life’s okay, but in the background you begin to notice, there’s some friction, no flow, ease feels like its taken a holiday, we’re rubbing up against life and its frustrating. And some of us ladies, we can layer onto this the business of getting older; there’s surprising health updates, the job hunting isn’t going as well as we had hoped, the scales have crept up.
And I think this moment in time can be mirrored in the photographs above.
It was outside our AirBnB in the Old Town of Dubrovnik, photograph taken on different days. On the left a slightly dishevelled group, a bit disjointed, no real alignment or feeling of neatness, just a cluster. Job done. But on the right, a sweet neat stack (whoever packed them away gets a pay rise!!), so beautifully paired together, mostly in like colours, neat & tidy. Artful, mindful.
Like these umbrellas, we can go from disheveled, no alignment, things feeling messy and a bit off, to this feeling of personal alignment, tidy, neat with a sense of flow and ease.
I call this a Pivot Moment, this in between things.
How do we handle this? What tools, strategies can we use to make it a little more enjoyable? A little more digestible.
During this time here’s a short list of what I do when I’m in this in between phase:
I put some music on; Olivia Dean, Sade, Don West, LEISURE.
I top up the diffuser with some essential oil, anything a little citrusy to get things enlivened, alongside popping open some windows and doors.
I tidy. Yes, I find areas in my home, or car that need tidying. Because once I start sorting things out on the outisde of me, things on the inside begin to shift.
I try, really I try, to trust that there’s a unseen backlog that just needs time to get things moving.
I create: a new stack of books on my bedside table, create a new reel, I write about a treasured photograph and list the things I love about it.
I put my favourite clothes on and light a stick of incense and read something inspiring.
I make a coffee & call a girlfriend! THIS is the BEST. ⋆☕︎ ˖
